Raymond Derain

Raymond Derain was a comrade of Léon Trulin. He was born on 31 October 1897 in Marcq-en-Baroeul, one of four children. His father was a foreman with the tramway company, Mongy. After his primary schooling, he attended the César-Baggio vocational school. In 1914, he was a team assistant with the Mongy company. He was arrested on the Dutch border in the company of Léon Trulin. Condemned to death on 7 November 1915, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. He was imprisoned in Rheinbach in Germany. He died in Strasbourg as he was being repatriated to Lille in December 1918.
