Women and children in the resistance
Léon Trulin, Raymond Derain and Marcel Gotti were arrested in 1915 and sentenced to death. Léon Trulin was shot on 8 November 1915 in the moat ditches of the Citadel of Lille. The sentences handed down to Raymond Derain and Marcel Gotti were commuted to life imprisonment. The Alice espionage network was set up by Louise de Bettignies. The main members of the network, women for the most part, were arrested in September and October 1915. Louise de Bettignies’ death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. She died of pleurisy on 27 September 1918 in a prison in Cologne.
