Pierre Dumont

Pierre Dumont was born in Lens on 12 January 1896. His parents were merchants. He studied for and obtained a Capacité en Droit legal certificate from the University of Lille, before going on to study at the Higher National Business School of Lille.
In 1914, he became a German interpreter for the Mayor of Lille, Charles Delesalle. Throughout the War, he took notes which he edited years later after retiring. Five notebooks were deposited with the Nord Departmental Archives in 1978 by his heirs. His writings bear witness to the relationship between the German occupation authorities and the French administration in occupied territory.
