The Jacquet Committee
The Jacquet Committee was so named after Eugène Jacquet, a wine wholesaler, socialist, General Secretary of the Nord Federation of the Human Rights League, a freemason and pacifist. Supported by Prefect Trépont, it included industrialists, professional traffickers and a few of Jacquet’s friends. The committee engaged in surveillance activities and the repatriation of English airmen. Denounced in 1915, Jacquet, Maertens, Deconninck and Verhulst were executed on 22 September 1915.
