The Missing

The number of dead, the nature of the fighting, the bombings, the lack of time, and the limits of the administrative organization left a great number of unidentified corpses. In the mess of the war, some were considered missing when they were actually prisoners, or their posting had changed without notification to their families. At the end of the war, family searches multiplied in the hopes that they would find loved ones alive or be able to finally mourn their dead by finding their tombs.
