Health Issues
The end of the war left health systems profoundly disorganised: a lack of personnel, equipment, as well as the number and urgency of the cases to treat. Further, the issue of water cleanliness became acute at the end of the war. The fields for water abstraction for the Lille District were often located on the front lines. The clean-up, recovery of bodies, and their burial became a priority to avoid the return of epidemics such as the typhoid epidemic that raged in Lille during the war.
